The soaring, needle-sharp towers of the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul look down on Brno from atop Petrov Hill. You can see the spires throughout the city. Originally Romanesque in style, alterations changed the face and interior into a Gothic structure in the 13th century. Restoration in the 18th century turned it Baroque while prior to WWI it became neo-Gothic. Inside, the only original section is the crypt. The melding of the different styles, however, creates a unique appearance. Visitors to the Cathedral can view the mixture of styles in the interior. There is a 14th century Madonna and Child as well as the aluminum creation “Stations of the Cross” designed by Jiří Morek in the 1960s. Climb the tower for one of the best views of the city.

Also unique is the clock. It rings noon at 11am. This is not a modernist idea. During the Thirty Years War, the hostile commander stated he would leave the long siege at noon if he had not entered the city. The bells for the first time tolled noon early, saving the city.
