When anyone says “Colonnade” in Marienbad, he or she inevitably means the Main or New Colonnade. This is a beautiful structure in the town center dating from 1889. It is located on the spa grounds just off the Skalníkovy sady. The Main Colonnade shelters several springs including the well-known Cross Spring. The spring water flows 24 hours a day. Bring your own cup or buy a porcelain one locally, to sip the waters or come to admire the structure.
This Neo-Classical colonnade is a glass and iron structure. A Moravian Foundry, the Blansko Ironworks, cast the wrought iron framework for this structure between 1884 and 1889. The supporting columns are Corinthian in style. Above your head is a coffered wooden ceiling. It plays host to a series of frescoes. The artist is J. Vyletál. He completed these paintings in1979. If you tire of the delicate filigree struts or the frescoes on the ceiling, wander over to the nearby Singing Fountain to catch the show.
