Jindřichův Hradec is a town that is to be found in the south eastern section of the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. Watching over Jindřichův Hradec is the tall church spire known as the Assumption of Mary which stands its lonely vigil as if in protection over this lovely old town. Jindřichův Hradec boasts the third largest castle in the country, sat amongst 320 hectares of land and surrounded by some stunning forests. The church of St John the Baptist has some wonderful frescos on display that are over 600 years old, and the District Museum houses the largest mechanical nativity scene in the world that took over 60 years to construct and comprises of over 1000 hand crafted figures. For steam railway enthusiasts there is a narrow gauge railway that runs trips over a 79Km length of track in the summer. The town is quite small and accommodation limited but there are a variety of cheap hotels in Jindřichův Hradec, so book early to avoid disappointment.
