Kladno is a city of about 110,000 people in the Central Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. It is 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) northwest of Prague. Kladno dates back to at least the 14th century. In the 19th century it became an important steel producing center because of nearby deposits of iron and coal.
