What you need to know before traveling to Kladno

Kladno is a city of about 110,000 people in the Central Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. It is 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) northwest of Prague. Kladno dates back to at least the 14th century. In the 19th century it became an important steel producing center because of nearby deposits of iron and coal. Today guests staying in discount hotels in Kladno can visit a simulated underground mine.

One of Kladno’s main attractions is its Baroque Renaissance castle, which stands on the ruins of the original medieval fortress. The chapel in the west wing is still used for religious purposes. Nearby is the Sladecek Museum of Local History in which you can trace the development of the Kladno region from prehistoric times to the present. Museum excursions include a trip to the old medieval hill fort, Budec near Zakolany. Its St. Peter and Paul Rotunda is the oldest well preserved building in the Czech Republic. Children love the Kladno Aquapark, which is one of the biggest and most popular in the country. The rides range from a 100-meter (328-foot) high kamikaze waterslide, to a feature called “The Space Bowl”. A guided tour of Kladno will include a brewery and a glass manufactury. Hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders are attracted to the beautiful countryside here. Guests in budget hotels in Kladno find it a good base from which to visit Prague.
