The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary’s Birth began as a simple Romanesque Chapel or sacristy (1333-13336) on this site in Roudnice nad labem. Over the years, it became the subject of many adaptations and restructuring. It became Bohemian gothic prior to the Hussite Wars. Fires further damaged the structure, a tree-aisled basilica. It underwent provisional repair in the 16th century, but it was not until the 18th century that the town addressed its problems.

The church arose as a meshing of Gothic and Baroque elements between 1725 and 1734. This Neo-Gothic Baroque style was the product of a clever adapter. Octavio Broggio was an Italian architect who approached the problem with sensitivity. The resulting structure features two towers. Within there are lower vaults above the nave. Some interior design remains denoting its heritage. The church houses a fine two-winged altar from the 14th century. The church also features a copy of the original Roudnice Madonna.
