The large West Bohemian Museum finds its home in Pležn. It dates from 1898. The building is from the Neo-Baroque era although it appears to be a combination of Neo-Renaissance style with fin-de-siècle elements. The design is by E. Kroh, O. Volf and A. Dryak. The ornate interior décor features the work of the sculptors G. Kkloucek, J. Drahnrosky and V. Sahf as well as painting by A. Nemejc.

A visit to this museum is for those who admire both the interior of the building and the contents. It has an Art Nouveau Library and reliefs carved on the stairs. There is a fenestrated ceiling in its Exhibition Hall. On the ground floor, you can view the armory of Pležn, established by Charles IV. Among the trophy pieces is a collection of Gothic long-nosed rifles (harquebuses). These are rare finds in a European collection. Other permanent displays focus on glass and pottery. You can find these in the elegant and extensive Jubilee Hall. The upper floors house temporary exhibitions.
