Lebedour and Pfaffy Gardens Prague
Prague is not just castles, churches and other monumental structures. It has some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. If you enter through Ledebour Palace from Valdstejnske namesti 3, you will find some of Prague’s finest floral displays. These are the Ledebur Cernin and Palffy Gardens.
The gardens date back to the early 18th century. They lie on the steep southern slope located just below Prague Castle. The original vineyards and gardens of the Middle Ages on this spot became formal terraced displays. This is the result of the increased building of palaces and villas. The initial style was Renaissance. In the 18th century, however, the Baroque movement took over. Even the gardens could not escape its effect. Wandering through them you will find examples of Baroque statues tucked in and on balustrade terraces. There are monumental staircases and highflying fountains with streaming jets of water. There is an original sundial in the Pfaffy Garden and a fine pavilion in the Ledebour Garden.
