The early 1900s was a Golden Age for Prague. It was time of the Grand Hotels. These structures oozed luxury and decadence. In the city of Prague, one Grand Dame remains from this era. It is the Grand Hotel Europa.

The Grand Hotel Europa dates from 1903 to 1906. It is an Art Nouveau building and represents the finest example of fin-de-siècle architecture. Although somewhat shabby these days, the Hotel is worth visiting to see the past glories that still exist. Gilded nymphs top the asymmetrical façade. Inside, you will find the original interior in all but the bedrooms. The large mirrors, the rosewood paneling, the marble fireplace, the mezzanine the bar and even the light fixtures, are all original – vintage 1906. Be sure to climb the staircase. Admire the Art Nouveau details in every nook. The rosewood walls are inlaid with ebony and mother of pearl. Peer at the wooden bow window boxes. These are folk style, modified from bay windows. Rumor has it the dining room is a model of the one that sank with the Titanic.
