Bertramka Villa or Mozart Museum Prague
Prague loved Mozart. They celebrate his life and music across the city. The feeling was mutual. Mozart adored Prague. He visited the city several times during his lifetime. At one point, he stayed as the guest of František Dušek, also a composer, and his wife Josefina. It was at their suburban villa, Bertamka. Today, you can visit this house. It is now a small museum.
Bertamka began life as a small farmhouse in the 17th century. In 1750, it became a villa. Dušek hosted Mozart here in 1787 and 1791. You can see Mozart’s written work, manuscripts, a harpsichord and even a lock of his hair. Wander out into the garden. It was here, in the garden pavilion, Mozart finished composing the overture of “Don Giovanni.” He completed it just prior to its premier at the Nostritz (Estates) Theater. Try to arrange your arrival at the Villa to coincide with one of the many chamber concerts that take place there.
