To visit the Lapidarium is to enjoy a unique experience. It is a branch of the National Museum in Prague. It is a special repository. It is also one of the more organized museums in town. It needs to be. The Lapidarium is home to some 400 sculptures dating from the 11th to the 19th centuries.
The works within this museum are both copies and originals. They are from various places within Prague, including Charles Bridge. In fact, the Lapidarium contains 10 of the original sculptures from Charles Bridge. The museum is also home to the stone Lions of Kouřim. These are Bohemia’s most ancient surviving stone sculptures. In addition, there is the original Crucifixion from the portal of the Church of Our Lady Before Týn as well as the remains of a Marian Capital. It stood in the Old Town Square until people toppled it in 1918 considering it a symbol of the Hapsburgs
