One of the unique buildings just outside of Prague is the Star Hunting Lodge. It is also called the Star Summerhouse or the Star Summer Palace. It derives its name from its shape. The Letohrádet Hvĕzda is in the form of a six-pointed star. (Hvĕzda is Czech for star.)

Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol was behind the initial construction of the hunting lodge. In 1530, Ferdinand I used it as his hunting preserve. The lodge was complete by 1556. Today, you can reach the Renaissance palace by strolling up a long avenue. It sits there, amidst the wooden parkland of Obora Hvĕzda. The park is now a game preserve. The Palace is the home of a small museum. It reveals a history exhibit concentrating on two things: the unique structure and its symbolism of the Star Hunting Lodge and the Battle of the White Mountain. The museum displays a model of this famous battle (November 8, 1620). As well, there are occasional exhibitions of such Czech authors as Alois Jirásek (1852-1930).
