Sternberg Palace Prague
ternberg Palace was once the provenance of royalty. Now, it is home to three floors of art. It is a place where you cannot spend too much time. In these halls, you will find some of the world’s greatest works. Once a palace, it now houses the best of their era.
The building is Baroque. There are three floors surrounding a central courtyard. On the ground floor, you can view the works of German and Austrian artists for the period from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Here, you can see Albert Dürer’s “The Feast of the Rosary.” The Italian Gallery covers the period from 1300 to 1800. There are icons and collections of Bohemian miniatures. In all, the works within the palace cover five centuries. The types vary from icons to canvas portraits and landscapes. You can see Rembrandt’s “Scholar in his Study,” El Greco’s “Head of Christ” and Ruben’s “The Martyrdom of St. Thomas.” There is even a Chinese Cabinet, part of the original furnishings of the Palace. It has its own artistic merit.
