The Chateau Ctěnice or Zámek Ctenice began its existence as a Gothic fort in the 1300s. As time passed, the need for such a fortification became less of a priority. In the 1550s, it became a Renaissance Chateau. Further modification occurred during the 18th century. Today, it little resembles the original structure.

The newly realized Chateau stands near an agricultural yard and structure. A nearby moat survived the changes as did the bridge. It is mainly a Baroque edifice with Rococo characteristics. It has a prismatic tower featuring a rounded cupola and a lantern. The Chateau is currently home to a unique exhibit. Visitors are treated to an exhibition of the history of carriages and other forms of horse vehicular travel. These encompass every type and class possible from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. There are basic stagecoaches and an archiepiscopal carriage. There are sledges and ceremonial gilded coaches. To round out the exhibit, you will be able to see and integral part of carriage services: the liveries. All match a specific period. There is also a permenant Exhibit, open since 2005. It explores the history of the Hapsburgs. The title is “Under Muttonchops and Frock Coat - The Habsburgs and the Czech Lands 1791 - 1914”.
