Jaroslav Fragner was the designer of the building in the late 1950s. The opening occurred in 1960. Since then, the original circular edifice has undergone a facelift. Changes in the 1990s saw several additions and improvements. There are now two halls: the large Cosmorama and the smaller Starvid.

You can catch a multi-visual program in the evening. Starvid Hall offers computer animation and utilizes virtual reality. After the show, you can wander through the astronomical exhibit in the Main Hall. You can also purchase maps, posters and other related astronomy publications.
