If you’re a lover of classical music, but you are traveling on a budget, you can still locate yourself close to a venue of great music if you book a room in a cozy discount hotel near the Copenhagen Opera House. Known to Danish music lovers as the Operaen, the opera house is a stunning new building which opened in 2005. It is located on the island of Holmen in Copenhagen Harbour. The façade seen from the water is absolutely striking. The construction was funded by Denmark’s wealthiest man, shipping tycoon Maersk McKinney Moller. The building was designed by Denmark's leading architect, Henning Larsen.

The state-of-the-art Opera House is a bold and original design that covers 376,000 square feet. The main auditorium seats 1,800 people, and there is also a smaller stage. The building is dominated by a 158-meter-long “Floating Roof” that extends 32 meters beyond the orb-shaped foyer. The ceiling is adorned in gold leaf. The acoustics are incredible. The foyer is a light-filled wonder. Even if you are not an opera lover, a tour of this building is well worth your while.
