Righospitalet is Denmark’s principal health care facility, and patients come here from all over the country. Righospitalet was founded in 1757, and was originally named after King Frederik V. Since 1903 it has been Denmark’s only state-owned hospital. It has 1,120 beds. Every year it treats 65,000 inpatients and 420,000 outpatients. The hospital has a staff of eight thousand personnel, most of whom are full time employees. Medical students train here, and scientists work under various research grants. The University Center for Nursing and Care Research is also part of the institution. Ringhospitalet’s goal is to be Denmark’s leading hospital. It received support in this when the Crown Princess of Denmark gave birth to her children, Prince Christian and Princess Isabella here.
