The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum started with modest roots as Carl Jacobsen's private collection of Danish and French art pieces. Jacobsen and his wife opened their first museum in their own home welcoming the public to come in and admire the pieces. However, the collection soon grew beyond the bounds of Jacobsen's home. In exchange for a larger building, Jacobsen donated his collection to the people of Denmark. The new building, Ny Carlsbert Glyptotek opened in 1888 and since then as been one of the leading centers of art and culture.
The museum features a permanent collection of more than 10,000 pieces ranging in artistic style and time period. These works include statues, paintings, and relics. The Egyptian collection features mummies and artifacts from the First Dynasty to the Graeco-Roman period. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek also has an extensive collection of modern art from Denmark, France, and other countries in Europe. The Ny Carlsbert Glyptotek Museum is a wonderful establishment where guests can explore the art and history of the world.
