Norreport Station is the largest train station in Denmark. It dates back to 1847, and was at that time outside of the city. The present station is the third to be built on the site, and was constructed in 1911. It was completely overhauled in 1980 to modernize it and add escalators and elevators. Further renovations brought about the addition of the Hovedbanen Mall with its shops and cafes. Norreport Station is not yet connected to Copenhagen’s Metro Line, but that will be done in the future.

A giant clock inside the train station is a Copenhagen landmark. This feature is supposed to ensure that passengers are on time for their trains. Many travel agents recommend using the rail system to get around Denmark, as it is much more economical than driving.
