Visitors to Denmark who take good music seriously but are on a budget can find a charming, cheap hotel near the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. This is the oldest, largest and most prestigious music academy in the country. It is located at Rosenorns Alle 22 in the Frederiksberg district of the city. The Academy recently moved into this building which was designed by the Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen as a radio house in the 1930s. It has been extensively renovated and modernized. In addition to being a teaching facility, it is also a venue for concerts and other productions.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music is a dynamic artistic institution that ranks among the best music academies in Europe. Students here learn classical music as well as modern music, and are prepared to become the composers, teachers and musical interpreters of the future. They take vocal and instrumental courses, as well as classes in musical theory, composition and conducting. The Academy presents a richly varied program of concerts. The Academy’s Children’s Choir is world famous, and had Victor Borge as a patron until his death in 2000. Composer Niels Wilhelm Gade founded the Academy in 1867, and Queen Margrethe II is the school’s official Protector.
