The University of Copenhagen is the oldest university in all of Denmark and among the oldest in this part of Europe. This university was established in 1447 and has undergone numerous and considerable changes yet it remains one of the best facilities in the country for higher education. The university has nearly 40,000 students who come from Denmark and abroad to study any of the numerous courses offered here. Offering degrees in law, health sciences, and a number of other fields the University of Copenhagen is dedicated to the education and advancement of it students so that they may benefit themselves and the world.
The University has had a turbulent past and has been a witness to some of the most memorable historical events in Denmark. The University was once a Roman Catholic facility until the Reformation of Martin Luther when it became a Lutheran seminary. The University was also among the first to introduce the requirement of an exam in order to receive a degree in any chosen field of study. The University has survived a bombing campaign by Admiral Nelson and German Occupation as well. Today, The University of Copenhagen is a well respected institution.
