    Amalienborg Palace Details

Amalienborg Palace is a beautiful complex of four palaces surrounding an octagonal courtyard. The interiors of the four palaces are done in the rococo style favored by the French in the 17th century. The four palaces are called the Christian VII, Christian VIII, Frederik VIII, and the Christian IX Palaces. After a devastating fire the royal family bought the palaces from the Amalienborg's and used the Palaces as a winter home. From time to time, different royals have inhabited different palaces.Today, the Amalienborg Palace is a museum showing guests how the rooms originally appeared in the 17th century. Tours take guests through most of the four palaces where the rococo interiors can be seen up close. Along with the four palaces, guests can see the Equestrian Statue which sits in the middle of the courtyard. The statue was completed in 1771 and was created by Jacques Francois Joseph Saly, a famous French sculptor. Amalienhaven is a new addition to Amalienborg Palace and stretches to the nearby harbor. The garden is a two-tiered garden with marble sculptures and compliments the courtyard and the four palaces.
