Hotels near Christiansborg Palace - Best deals & budget rates!

The little island of Slotsholmen is the geographical and historical heart of Copenhagen. A room in a quaint discount hotel in Copenhagen, near the Christiansborg Palace, will put you close to this ancient seat of Danish Royalty. The Christiansborg Palace, or “Slot” in Danish, dates back to the 12th century. The present palace is actually the third one to be built on this site. The previous ones were destroyed by strife and fire, but surviving remnants of them can still be seen.

The Christiansborg Palace that now dominates Slotsholmen was constructed between 1907 and 1928. It is the home of the Danish Parliament (the Folketing) and the Danish Supreme Court. The official office of the prime minister of Denmark is here. The building was originally intended to also serve as a residence of the Danish Royal Family. Although that arrangement did not work out, it still houses the Royal Stables, the Royal Riding School and the Royal Reception Rooms. The palace is a stout, granite-faced, neo-Baroque building. It is topped with a large green copper spire. At the main entrance there is an equestrian statue of King Frederik VII. The best view of the castle is from the 18th century Marble Bridge. A tour of the palace will take you through museums, the Royal Reception Rooms, the Throne Room, and the magnificent Great Hall. When you return to your budget hotel near the Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, you can relax after having spent a day in royal surroundings.
