The Pharaoh Snefru was a busy man who oversaw the start of two pyramids, with the completion of one of these in his life time. The Bent Pyramid is considered a major ancient world blunder by some and a simple honest mistake by others. It is believed that the Bent Pyramid with its characteristic and name sake bend was supposed to be the first smooth pyramid. As construction continued either an error in calculation or a cut in budget resulted in the slopes to take a drastic angle change resulting in a bend. The pyramid was completed even though Snefru was not buried here.
For being such an early pyramid, the Bent Pyramid is in surprisingly good condition with most of the outer surface still intact. As an example of early planning and procedure the Bent Pyramid provides a great chance to see the evolution of the building and planning process. The Bent Pyramid is located near Snefru’s other achievement, the Red Pyramid and is accessible through Cairo.
