Iconic and impressive the Pyramids of Giza are usually the first image that appears when someone says ‘Egypt’. Constructed in the Old Kingdom during the third and fourth dynasty these pyramids have become ingrained in the imagination of mankind for generations. There are three pyramids here, the tallest belonging to Khufu and the others to Kafhre and Menkaura. Surrounding these three giants are smaller pyramids and tombs called mastabas and are believed to belong to noble men and other men of importance. Visitors can also visit the Solar Boat museum which is air conditioned and features the boats that brought the dead kings across the Nile to his final resting places. These boats are an important fixture in ancient myths as Ra, the Sun God, rode a boat through the night to bring his light back to the land of Egypt.

The Pyramids of Giza are just a short distance from Cairo which makes travel easy and a little less arduous. While visiting these Pyramids, take the opportunity to see the Sphinx who guards the land and the Pharaohs.
