Tallinn is a city with fine palaces and castles. There is the Maarjamäe Palace and Toompea Castle. There is also the graceful Kadriorg Palace. It is the highlight of many a trip to Tallinn. You can wander its verdant, well-manicured park, admire the building and pay a visit to the Estonian Art Museum all at once.

Kadriorg Palace rose at the instructions of the Russian Tsar, Peter the Great. Like so many of his projects, he built it with Catherine in mind. The palace is an excellent example of Northern Baroque architecture. It is a triumph of the style in both Estonia and Northern Europe. Grandiose in scale, it boasts one of the best preserved Baroque Great Halls. Within these walls, you can view a large collection of international artwork. These include pieces covering the centuries from 1500s to the 1900s. There are approximately 900 paintings, 3,500 prints, 1,600 works of decorative art and 3,000 gems and sculptures. From furniture to sculpture, you can see some of the world’s finest in the gallery at the Kadriorg Palace. You can see , for example works by Peter Brueghel, the Younger.
