Sometimes it is not easy to find something the entire family can enjoy at the same time. You can visit museums, monuments and even zoos. They do not always appeal to everyone. One museum everyone might enjoy, however, is the Estonian Open-Air Museum.

The Estonian Open-Air museum first opened in 1957. You can locate it on the former property of the Rocca al Mare summer Manor. It is a way to immerse yourself and your family in the history of Estonia. This is not a glimpse of the life of the late and the great. It is a time capsule of the daily life of an Estonian peasant. Here, you can visit a small village amidst pastureland and forest. There are thatched farm buildings, a 300-year-old wooden church (the Sutlepa Chapel), a village school ( the Kuie Village School ) and windmills. The staff, dressed in period costumes, clearly illustrate how people went about their daily lives, working and playing. Leave your children at the Children’s museum in the school where they can learn the old-fashioned way. Take a moment to follow the paths or simply sit down in the Village Tavern, the Kulu Inn, and enjoy a traditional meal. Afterwards, purchase handicrafts. These will serve as a memento of your trip.
