Gardens are the perfect place in which to spend time. They are relaxing, soothing and conducive to quiet thoughts. Tallinn is home to a beautiful and extensive botanical garden. The Tallinn Botanical Garden was established in 1961. It stretches over some 110 hectares of land and provides a visitor with the chance to view more than 8,000 different plant species.
The plants you will see in the Tallinn botanical Garden combine both the typical Estonian plants and the rare species. Among the five collections, you are sure to find something to appeal to both your sight and your sense of smell. Outdoors there is an arboretum, bulbous plants, perennials, a rosarium and summer plants. You can also visit small gardens such as the heather garden, the peony collection, a lily garden and a stone garden. There are also greenhouses to visit. They contain plant species from around the world. You can see orchids and araceae as well as cacti and palm plants. The plants cover the spectrum from common houseplants to rare species to useful plants e.g. cacao, coffee, vanilla. The Tallinn botanical Garden is a wonderful place to while away any afternoon.
