The Church of the Holy Spirit (Ghost) is one of the oldest churches in Tallinn. It dates back to the end of the 13th and early 14th centuries. A Medieval work, it represents one of the most striking churches in town. You can locate it by wandering over to Pühavaimu.

The Church of the Holy Spirit is not a large religious edifice. It is among the smallest of Tallin’s churches. Inside and out, however, you will find some of the facets that make this church truly significant. On its façade resides the oldest clock in Tallinn, an intricate 17th century painted timepiece. Its carvings date from 1684. The bell in the tower was cast in 1433. The interior of the church is home to one of the country’s most ancient pulpits, Renaissance, possibly 1597. Inside, you can also find a wooden altarpiece from 1483. The altar is winged. It is from the hands of the city of Lübeck’s own master, Berndt Notke (1483). The galleries feature frescoes and carvings in the Baroque style by Elert Thiele while the stained glass windows are from the 20th century.
