Pärnu Hotels and Accommodation
The coastal town of Parnu in the county of Parnumaa is the fifth largest city in the Baltic nation of Estonia. Parnu is on the upper reaches of the Gulf of Riga. Tourists come to budget hotels in Parnu for the beautiful beaches and the health spas that have made the community famous since the 19th century. Outside the city the Nigula Natural Reserve is a protected area of bogs and forests of pine, birch and fir trees. The town dates back to the 13th century and was once part of the Hanseatic League. Parnu’s Old City Hall was built in the Classicist style in 1788. The Elizabeth Church dates from 1747, and was named after the daughter of the Czar of Russia. Other historic churches worth a visit are Ekatarina Kirik and the Preobrazhenski Church. For theater lovers, Parnu has the only professional theater in Estonia. It performs in the Old Town only in summer. A park is dedicated to the poet Lydia Koidula, and her home is a museum. The town’s Chaplin Center is a former Communist Party headquarters that now honors the great silent film star Charlie Chaplin.
