Situated on the prominent Promenade des Anglais, the white marble and glass Museum of Asian Arts is a piece of art on its own. While containing rare examples of ancient artifacts, the building exudes the contemporary spirit of Asian design. Do allow time for a visit if you book into one of the many modest discount hotels in Nice near the Museum of Asian Arts. It is a geometric structure with a large spherical building sitting atop a rectangular one. This, according to the famous Japanese architect, Kenzo Tange, represents the balance between sky (circle) and earth (square). Inside, the designer François Deslaugiers, continues the themes of balance and harmony. He strives to combine the right space to house exhibits centuries old while displaying modern examples of Asian art.
The Museum of Asian Arts opened in 1998. It hosts permanent and temporary exhibits on works from China, Japan, India and South East Asia. There are precious stones, metals, traditional costumes, sandstone sculptures and examples of decorative and practical art work. Be sure to check into a charming budget hotel close to the Museum of Asian Arts in Nice in time to take part in a tea ceremony. Afterwards, wander around the grounds. There is a small artificial lake where you can watch the ducks and swans swim.
