The city’s oldest park is Jardin Albert 1er (Albert 1st Gardens). Just below Massena Plaza, this Park provides a connection between Old Nice, the centre and the famed Promenade des Anglais. You can stroll through the park on your way to the city’s attractions or wander through the park as long as you want. The Park is the perfect cure for an overdose of urban life. Its palm trees and exotic flowers soothe and calm frazzled nerves.
Jardin Albert 1er is named after King Albert I of Belgium. It dates from 1914, and offers visitors the chance to relax and enjoy plays, jazz and other musical offerings in the open air Verdun Theatre. Stop and admire the famous landmark the Arc de Venet as it slices the sky, or follow the laughter of children to the old wrought-iron Ferris wheel. Enjoy the sound of water flowing from the Fontaine du Soleil. You will catch the lively sounds of the Carnival of Nice as it snakes around the Park.
