Tourettes-sur-Loup is a town in the Alpes Maritimes department of France. Visitors come to discount hotels in Tourettes-sur-Loup for the spectacular mountain scenery and the many prehistoric and historic sites. Excavations have turned up evidence of human occupation as far back as 70,000 years, including traces of Neanderthal Man. Several caves are known to have been used by people of the Neolithic Age. Artifacts from the Bronze Age and the Iron Age have also been found, as well as an ancient necropolis in which human remains have been uncovered.

The site of Tourettes-sur-Loup was once occupied by the Romans, but it is best known for its buildings from medieval times. The Church of Saint-Gregoire de Tourettes goes back to at least 1312, and the Church of Saint Martin de Pelote dates back to at least 1496. There is a castle that was first mentioned in 13th century documents, but could be older. Here you can see the Hermitage of Saint-Arnoux, who, according to legend, was a great-grandfather of the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. Tourettes-sur-Loup was also the site of a famous viaduct called the Bridge of the Wolf. That landmark structure was dynamited by the German army during World War II. Be sure to see the spectacular waterfall called the Cascade of Courmes which drops down 90 meters (295 feet) into the Bas Canyon.
