When people think of Ardennes, in France, their thoughts generally turn to the thick forests of the region and the world war battle that is forever tied to the name. The hills and trees of this area have led the region to become known for its wonderful timber and for rich mineral deposits. In early years the larger region was called Champagne, a name still associated with Ardennes. As is the case in much of France, Roman ruins abound, in Reims for example. In northeastern France you will have access to that great white wine known by the larger region's name, Champagne. The exquisite drink is perfect with some boudin blanc de Rethel, a white pudding, or some of the great cheeses from Ardennes.
