In southern France, the town of La Pomarede is found in the Aude department. The town is built around the Cathar chateau. It was constructed between the 11th and 12th centuries, and is partially preserved. However, it has been restored and is now owned by the local government. It currently houses the Maire, or town hall, as well as a school, a library, a post office, and a hotel and restaurant. In the same complex, there is a Roman Catholic church and the main cemetery of the town. There is also a tower that is named for Jean XXII, the Pope of Avignon, who supposedly stayed there in 1320.
The town is also convenient to exploring the Aude department, so you may find it a good choice for finding your EasyToBook.com hotel. You can easily reach the town of Castelnaudary, which was an important city for trade during Roman times. It is unusual in that it sits on The Canal du Midi that leads to the Mediterranean. It is still an important means of transport, but visitors will also enjoy a leisurely boat ride through some lovely countryside.
