Andlau is a commune in France, located in the French département of Bas-Rhin. Andlau is a gorgeous, medieval village that got its origin from Abbey by Ste. Richarde in the year 880. Legend has it that the abbey in the village held mystical powers brought on by a bear scratching the ground. Today you can see a fountain in the village that has a Ste. Richarde statue with the bear.
Visitors can't come to Andlau without checking out the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul, a parrish church that was once a collegiate church. Although it was renovated in the 17th century, it still has a lot of Romanesque sculpture and architecture. Another site you won't want to miss is the Château d'Andlau, a medieval castle in Andlau. Built in 1246, this granite castle has two levels which have circular towers on each side.
