It was the military order of the Hospitaliers de St-Jean-de-Jerusalem which later on became de-Malte that founded the former command centre in 1180. It was after the alterations done in 1272 and 1646 that the centre was converted into a church. The only openings that can be seen in the stark facade are its two rose windows. Many has found the arrow shape of the bell-tower as in keeping with the architectural style observed by the Popes of Avignon. The interiors of this central Gothic nave is the home of the tomb of the Provencal counts.
