Arles is a moderately sized town located in southern France. With a population of nearly 60,000, this culturally significant town is many tourists’ favorite destination for the weekend. Arles is foremost known as the town where Vincent van Gogh painted some of his most important works. You can view the brilliant paintings of the tragic artist at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh, and there is also an art school named after him called the Espace Van Gogh. Other historical attractions you can visit in Arles include the Arles Arènes Amphitheatre, the Arles Forum and the Alyscamps, a Christian cemetery which was mentioned in the writings of Dante. The Museum of Arles is also worth a visit for those who are interested in the history of the town. In the month of May, Arles celebrates the Fête des Gardians, the cultural festival of the town.
