Istres is a beautiful maritime town in Provence which oozes charm. Built around the fortified church of Notre Dame de Beauvoir at the top of the hill, Istres is situated to the north of the Étang de Berre and in very close proximity to beaches and the Camargue. Wander the narrow streets with pastel coloured houses, and have a meal at one of the many terrace cafes. A market full of local produce is held each Tuesday morning in the old town.
