Caen hotels and accommodation

Caen is known throughout France as one of the most important ports in the country. It’s also in this commune that you’ll find two famous Abbeys, the Men’s Abbey and the Ladies Abbey. These structures were built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror and his wife Queen Mathilda as competing structures since William had built the Men’s Abbey exclusively for men. The town is also known for its contribution during the World War II. You’ll see evidence of this in a number of museums in this commune, all of which are dedicated to the WWII, including the Musée du Debarquement, Musée Memorial 1944 Bataille de Normandie and Musée de Normandie. For a cultural visit during the weekend, Caen has the Musée des Beaux Arts, where you will find an excellent collection of Italian, French and Flemish artworks by famous artists.
