An important naval base and strategic location during the war is the city of Rochefort. This lovely seascape can be found West of France by the Atlantic Ocean. It belongs to the Charente-Maritime department. The city of Rochefort is an example of a Ville Nouvelle which means new town due to the building designs of politics. The Corderie Royale is the longest building in Europe and was built in the 17th century. However, it was destroyed and restored again for tourism purposes.
