Eglise Saint Louis Rochefort

A beautiful building that served as the heart of Rochefort for a number of centuries, the Eglise Saint Louis bears the hallmarks of the traditional architetural style in the town. Because of this, the church has magnificent stonework carvings both on its interiors and exteriors. Formerly known as the Capuchin chapel, the Englise Saint Louis or the Saint Louis church has a romantic Merklin organ and is the home of the tomb of the Intendant Begon. One of the interesting facts that make visiting the church really one of the great things to do in Rochefort is its being originally a Protestant preaching area that the lords of the town started. It was Colbert who was responsible for its conversion into a Catholic Church.
