Creuse Details

Creuse is a department located in central France, and named for the Creuse River which flows through it. The countryside is a mixture of rolling hills and steep valleys. It is very popular with hikers and cyclists. Anglers come here for the great fishing. The summers in Creuse are very pleasant; not quite as hot as in Southern France. It is a favorite place for families. Some farms are open to tourists, and children can make jam, learn about animals, pick fruit, and go on nature walks. Some communities, such as Felletin, have special events. In Felletin it is Les Journees de la laine (Wool Days). Visitors learn all about the wool industry through exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations of such crafts as spinning, carding, weaving, knitting, felting, crocheting and dying. Visitors can also explore Creuse Regional Nature Park. There is a Tapestry Museum in Aubusson. Also be sure to see the castles in Villemonteix, Banizette, and Boussac, and the monastery at Moutier-dAhun.
