The service was excellent - friendly and attentive. The setting and location are very nice - in the countryside, and away from traffic noise. The Bistro restaurant was only average for food quality.Sleep quality was impaired by the duvets being too heavy, and therefore too hot. Another problem was that the beds are all single beds; when I asked for a room with a double bed, I was informed that all beds in the hotel were singles, and in so-called "double" rooms two single beds (each with a single mattress) were just pushed together. The colour scheme of all the bedrooms that we saw (3) was just black and white. Presumably this is because a "merle" means a blackbird; but as a colour scheme it may not be to everyone's taste - my wife found it very unsettling. Also, the matt black floorboards showed up every speck of the pale dust from the car-park that we (inevitably) tracked in on our shoes; nevertheless, that did show that the floor had been very well cleaned before we arrived!
