Aigues Mortes is a small commune located in the southern part of France in the Gard department. Solid medieval city walls surround the entire city. This may be a small community, but it's perfect for a quiet getaway or short vacation. You'll particularly enjoy Place St. Louis, a sunny little square in the center of town. There's a statue of St. Louis as well as restaurants with tables and umbrellas near the beautiful shade trees. Right across the street you'll find Our Lady of the Sands church, which just happens to be one of the first buildings built in this town. For some interesting viewing, check out the Paléo Passion, an exhibition that features mineral and fossil collections from Europe.
You'll see more than 700 different items here. La Tour Carbonniere is an ancient watchtower located out in the country. At one time, it was used to defend access into the city. Today it's used to give you a perfect view of the entire town. You will really enjoy this small town and all its charm.
