Martillac Details

Martillac, a small French village, has a big place in the history of Europe. One of the town's most well-known landmarks is the Holy Quitterie Church which is believed to have been built on the site of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to their god of war, Mars, in the 1000's. Today's church largely represents the building efforts undertaken in the 1800's and, because of those efforts, it remains in good condition. The village is also home to the Aqueduct Budos, over 20 miles long and built in the mid-Nineteenth Century. To defend against Moorish invaders, the Castle Rochemorin offered its thick walls which still stand. The town hall itself was built in 1883 and still stands in the center of town.Hotels in Martillac are wonderfully modern in the midst of all this important history.
