Faverges is a picturesque village which dates back to Gallo-Roman times and around which are several hamlets just waiting to be discovered by the tourist with a thirst for the historical. The main feature of the town is a castle, which began life as little more than a fortified building built by a barbarian colony but which today is undergoing a full restoration to its rooftop and dungeon. From the 12th century, artisans worked in tanneries and paper mills, and produced cutlery, industries which have since given way to a weaving factory producing cotton and silk.
Aside from the castle, there is no shortage of other things to see and do in Faverges. Visitors can stop off at the Museum of Archaeology, or the Butterfly Museum, or take a hike or cycle ride around the surrounding area, which features caves and a waterfall. There is also plenty of opportunities for climbing and canyoning in the mountains, so to take the first step on your trip, check here at EasyToBook.com for the best discount and cheap hotels in the area.
