Hotels in Combourg
This pretty Bretagne town is dominated by its castle, which was home to François-René de Chateaubriand, believed by many to be the founder of Romanticism in French literature. The castle stands on a small hill next to Lake Tranquil in the town, and is quite simply a must-see for any visitors to Combourg. The original castle on the site was built in the 11th century by Archbishop Guinguené, and although major alterations were made between the 15th and 19th centuries, the structure is still intact and a marvellous way to spend a day's exploring. As well as the stunning castle, Combourg is also home to the garden of granite, an outdoor gallery of megaliths, and the 11 locks of Hédé Tinténiac, which provide not only a picture-postcard setting, but also the perfect opportunity to relax amid the tranquility of northern France. A few kilometres away is situated the forest of Mensil, a beautiful place for a hike and to explore the many trails.
