Briare is a small town located on the Loire River. It has a population of more than 6000 people and it offers many interesting attractions that provide for a fulfilling getaway on the weekend. Briare is a unique tourist destination in that it can be explored by boat. There are several medieval buildings in Briare that attracts many visitors, including the 15th century castles of Château de Briare and the Château de Trousse-Barrière. The 19th century Romano-Byzantine church of L'Église Saint Étienne is also very popular among visitors to the town. There are also two excellent museums in Briare, namely, Le Musée des Deux Marines et Du Pont Canal and Le Musée de la Mosaïque et des Émaux which displays mosaic works that date back to more than 150 years ago.
