There are many towns and cities in France that boast of having some of the most beautiful fountains in the country. One of these is Cahors, which is the home of the Fountains des Chartreux. As these ancient fountains are among the oldest and the most well preserved in France, they are understandably one of the attractions that comprise the tourism of Cahors.
The Fountains des Chartreux can be found at the center of a roundabout road that is near to the river of the city. The original structures were believed to have been put together during the 1st or 2nd century, when the Romans still occupied the area. Recent dives into the fountains' pools resulted in the discovery of coins that were dated way back to these very early ancient times. At present, explorations and excavations in the flooded cavern that was found underneath the pool is still ongoing. As one of the most frequented attractions that make up the tourism of Cahors, the fountains are believed to hold a great deal more of treasures from the past.
